A NOLA Tour to try!

While You’re there…Things not to miss while you are in New Orleans

St. Charles Streetcar

The Essence Festival is an unforgettable experience. Even with everything it will have going on...Essence Eats Food & Wine Festival, Beauty Carnival, In His Zone, Wealth & Power Summit, ESSENCE E-Suite, and more…this is also a fantastic opportunity to experience New Orleans' vibrant atmosphere and unique culture. The city is full of life, history, and culture. While you are at Essence Festival, here are some must-see attractions and experiences to squeeze into your itinerary.

  1. Visit the French Quarter The French Quarter is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to New Orleans. The district is full of colorful buildings, street performers, and jazz music. Take a stroll down Bourbon Street or explore the art galleries and boutiques on Royal Street. The French Quarter is also home to some of the best restaurants in the city, serving up local delicacies like gumbo, jambalaya, and po'boys.  The French Quarter is the heart of New Orleans and one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city. During the Essence Festival, it's a hub of activity with live music, street performers, and vendors selling local food and crafts. Take a stroll down Bourbon Street, visit the iconic St. Louis Cathedral, and explore the numerous boutiques and antique shops.

  2. Try the local cuisine New Orleans is famous for its delicious cuisine, which reflects the city's unique blend of cultures. Make sure to try some of the local dishes while you're in town. You can find these dishes at restaurants all over the city, but some of the best places to try them are in the French Quarter or at the famous Cafe Du Monde. Be sure to indulge in the city's most popular sweet treat, beignets.  Cafe Du Monde - No trip to New Orleans is complete without a visit to this iconic cafe. Famous for its beignets and chic

  3. Ride a Streetcar. Streetcars are a fun way to experience the many areas of New Orleans. Whether you jump on one of the red Canal street trolleys that can take you up to City Park, over to the historic cemeteries (aka “Cities of the Dead”), or down to the riverfront where you can connect with the Riverfront line.  Our favorite ride is on the St. Charles streetcar. The oldest continuously operating streetcar line in the world moves through the Garden District past beautiful antebellum mansions.  Go all the way to the end of the line.  Pick up a daiquiri from New Orleans Original Daiquiri Shop for the ride back.

  4. Visit a museum New Orleans has a rich history and is home to many fascinating museums. The National WWII Museum is a must-visit for history buffs, while the New Orleans Museum of Art is a great place to view contemporary and modern art. If you're interested in the city's unique history, visit the Historic New Orleans Collection or the Louisiana State Museum. The Museum of the American Cocktail is also a great place to learn about the history and culture of New Orleans' signature drinks.

  5. Take a riverboat tour The Mississippi River is an integral part of New Orleans' history, and a riverboat tour is a great way to explore the city. You can take a leisurely cruise down the river while enjoying live music and a delicious meal. If a full tour isn’t possible with your tight schedule, The All-White Riverboat party during Essence Fest is a fabulous way to experience the mighty Mississippi.

  6. Explore the Garden District The Garden District is a beautiful neighborhood full of historic homes, beautiful gardens, and quaint shops. Take a walking tour of the area and admire the stunning architecture and lush greenery. Make sure to visit Lafayette Cemetery No. 1, a historic cemetery featured in many movies and TV shows.

  7. This is a music weekend. The Essence Fest concerts at the Caesar’s Superdome will be all that.  But if you have a free evening, New Orleans is known as the birthplace of jazz, and there are plenty of places to listen to live music throughout the city.  The Preservation Hall is a must-visit for jazz enthusiasts. Tipitina's is a popular venue for blues and rock music.  You could simply walk around the French Quarter and every other establishment will have a live band playing.  Stop in a few places, their talent abounds here.

Attending the Essence Festival in New Orleans is an unforgettable experience. With these must-see attractions and experiences, you can make the most of your trip and create memories that will last a lifetime. Whatever your interests, you will find them here. With a little planning and preparation, you can have it all and the time of your life!
