L-3 Oscar Weekend is Back!
After a 4 year hiatus (last time was 2020), Lisa3
are back on it. Living in Los Angeles it is almost inevitable to get caught up
in Oscar season. From doing Oscar brackets at work to celebrity sightings
around town. About 10 years ago, we
started the our version of Oscar weekend festivities. Over the years others
have joined us for one or both days, but it’s not a thing without L3. It has taken until this year for us to
re-start and re-boot since covid. We are
back!
The festivities started on Saturday. We gather together for a toast before heading
over to the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. We love to stop by the hotel for “champs”
& cocktails, pictures, laughs and people watch. Tonight I caught a few
people watching us. We do cut an
image. Next we walk the few long blocks
to our dinner reservation at Spago’s Beverly Hills. I enjoy this place not simply for the
delicious food and the people watching, but the hopes that Wolfgang Puck makes
an appearance in the dining (even though he is prepping the Governor’s Ball official
dinner party after the award show). If
Wolfgang is in the room, Lisa #3 being the extrovert of the group and a real foodie,
she can get him to the table and engage with fun conversation. During dinner
the wine & cocktails continued to flow along with the food. We spotted him,
Wolfgang was in the area. Lisa #3 did
her thing. Wolfgang even took a picture
with us. He is such a nice man. Great Chef, but really nice person.

| Far right, Wolfgang Puck |
Sunday is for brunch at the Four Seasons Hotel. Another great spot to catch a glimpse of Academy Awards show attendees. With Daylight Savings falling on this weekend, Sunday became a challenge for all of us. It had been awhile since I’ve been there for brunch. They change things up including the seating. We used to sit in this particularly strategic spot. We weren’t just trying to see those joining for brunch; we wanted to catch a glimpse of those dressed and on their way to the Ceremony. The “new-to-me” set up reserved that seating for those who were not having brunch. Next year, I guess we will try the patio.
By the time I got home, the Ceremony was half over. I was recording it so no worries. I was Oscar’d
out and needed a nap. For me the fun of
the weekend is not necessarily about the Oscars. It’s about the friends, the laughs, and camaraderie
of Lisa3 and the others that join us that make the weekend worth the
spend and sacrifice.
